Wine in a Box

Wine in a Box

Since I recently started a new job search, I’ve made lists of things I’d cut back on.  Wine and good food just cannot be skipped no matter what, so I thought I’d get my social media wine friends to help me compile a list of 10 affordable wines that they’ve recently discovered or are enjoying these days.

Please leave me a comment by 2/20/10 with a nice value wine you’ve enjoyed that you feel should make my top 10 list.

Cheers!

Embarrassing Wine Situation

Embarrassing Wine Situation

The following is my February 2010 entry into Wine Whore Wednesday.  On Twitter?  Be sure to follow Randy @thewinewhore

Question: What’s your most embarrassing wine moment?

bowling_pins

bowling_pins

My guy and me attended an upscale wine tasting where the hostess arranged Riedel Vinum glasses in the shape of bowling pins.  You’re seeing where I’m going with this, right?  As I went to grab the front pin, uh glass, someone bumped into me which caused several glasses to tumble. There were THREE casualties and I was definitely more heart-broken about the glasses than the hostess was.  With a face the color of young Beaujolais, I apologized and helped clean up.  Complete embarrassment!

Moral of the story #1: Don’t arrange your premium glasses in the shape of bowling pins.

Moral of the story #2: Make special friends with the kind folks at www.wineglasses.com in case you want to apologize with new gear???

My Birthday Adventure

Every year, my guy sets his Outlook calendar to ping him 30 days before my birthday.  He does this so that he can call the restaurant he’s picked for my big day within the 30-day range set by the restaurants for reservations.

Every year, after booking the restaurant, he then gives me weekly clues as to where we’re going.  Those 4 weeks are the most nerve-wrecking, high anticipation weeks of the year.  The clues are typically so obscure that one could never guess as to the chosen location.

Well, tonight is the night.  The surprise is on, and I’m on pins and needles about this year’s pick.  How could it beat last’s year’s visit to Daniel’s?  How could the food and the wine be better or more interesting?

More later!

Good Wine Day at the Office

I was sitting at my office in Manhattan working on year-end numbers going more and more blind by the minute when the friendly Fedex guy arrived bringing me the bottle of 2007 Dingac Winery Plavac Peljesac Peninsula I’d ordered and sort of forgotten about.  How sweet is that?  I can’t wait to try this red from Croatia.

I went back to work when the UPS guy showed up with a @wine_com holiday gift from my boss, a 2004 Château Pavie Decesse Saint-Emilion Grand Cru!  What special occasion will I save this little 91 Points WS gem for?  I’ll think of something.
