Schramsberg Mirabelle Brut Rosé

Schramsberg Mirabelle Brut Rosé

Just love a sparkling rosé – it’s so…festive!  This one is pale pink in the glass with a light strawberry and yeasty nose.  In the mouth, the Schramsberg Mirabelle Brut Rosé offers juicy fruit flavors with a slightly spicy finish.

Lucien Albrecht Crémant d’Alsace Brut Rosé NV

Lucien Albrecht Crémant d’Alsace Brut Rosé NV

This wine from Alsace is pale salmon-colored in the glass and offers sweet strawberry and ripe cherry aromas.  In the mouth, it’s typical (and lovely) Crémant – moussy and creamy.  Luscious, yet light, strawberries-and-cream flavors.

2009 Jagdschloss Spatburgunder Brut Rose

2009 Jagdschloss Spatburgunder Brut Rose

I sampled this sparkling German Pinot Noir from Rheingau last week and fell in love with it.

It’s beautiful light pink in the glass with tons of tiny bubbles.

On the nose, there are aromas of ripe strawberries with a little Fiji apple.

On the palate, I get a mouthful of creamy bubbles.  What a super mouthfeel.  Light strawberry flavors with enough richness to be great as an aperitif but also as a contrast to rich food or even cheeses.

This rosé is perfect for summer, but I know I’ll enjoy it as an every day celebration wine well past fall foliage.

2009 Semeli Mountain Sun Rose – Greek Wine with a Punch

2009 Semeli Mountain Sun Rose – Greek Wine with a Punch

Found this wine on a by-the-glass wine list and had to try it on the first warm day of Spring in New York.  In the glass, it’s much darker and brighter than you’d expect from a rose, more strawberry than the muted pink I typically see.  On the nose, the strawberry continues with sweet and intense aromas.  On the palate, it’s a bit of a different story.  Although this Greek wine from the region of Nemea offers a bit of sweetness, it’s the pop of acidity that gives the ripe, spicy cherry flavors its brightness and freshness.

Not only would this Greek rose made from the Agiorgitiko grape be perfect for sipping on a warm sunny day, its intensity would hold up well to grilled fish, roasted vegetables or even some BBQ chicken or ribs.

2009 Ameztoi Rubentis Rose Getariako Txakolina

2009 Ameztoi Rubentis Rose Getariako Txakolina

'09 Ameztoi Rubentis

This beautiful pale pink wine is both light and bold!  Big mouthful of the typical strawberry one is familiar with in roses, but in this case, pungent wild strawberries.  The wine is creamy yet floral and contains tons of tiny bubbles that lead to a dry finish.  Nice as an aperitif, but could also hold up to a fattier fish like salmon. Actually had this wine paired with lightly seasoned lamb chops and it held up.
