Thursday September 20th will be a huge night for New Jersey wine lovers as two outstanding dinners are taking place in the northern part of the state.

Wines of Portugal Dinner at Spuntino Wine Bar & Italian Tapas

Spuntino Wine Bar & Italian Tapas (http://spuntinowinebar.com), specializing in small plates that put modern twists on Italian classics and fine wines from around the world, invites guests to enjoy its Wines of Portugal Dinner at its location in the Clifton Commons on Thursday, September 20 at 7pm.

Mussels

Portugal offers a variety of climates from north to south that differentiates its wine from those produced in other countries. With over 200 varieties of grapes and a wide range of appellations, Portugal has developed impressive wines. To highlight some of the world-class wines produced in the region, Spuntino Wine Bar is pairing a selection of Portuguese wines with a five-course tasting menu to complement the flavor profiles of each. The full Wines of Portugal dinner menu includes:

  • Steamed Mussels – Mussels, pepper vinaigrette. Paired with Twin Vines Vinho Verde
  • Cod Fillet – Chickpea purée, onion, peppers. Paired with Periquita White 2017.

The upstairs dining room at Jockey Hollow Bar & Kitchen has been re-imagined and opened as daPesca on February 6th. The new space, as the name indicates, is now a “sparklingly fresh, locally sourced, seafood-centric restaurant”.

I’m excited about this new concept primarily because ultra-talented Chef Craig Polignano is at the helm in the kitchen. The menu is nearly exclusively-sourced from off the coast of New Jersey, with captains out of Point Pleasant and Barnegat Light providing daPesca much of their catch.

Chef Polignano offers a four-course $86 prix fixe experience, in addition to a seasonal $116 chef’s tasting menu for the entire table as well. From Tuesday through Friday the daPesca menu is also available a la carte. Saturday nights, the restaurant offers either the four course or the six course prix fixe menu only.

Is it wrong that I already know what I want to order when I visit? Calamari a la Plancha, Squid Ink Cavatelli, NJ Skate Wing and the Caputo Brothers Ricotta Salata!

The Ryland Inn Brunch

The Ryland Inn Brunch

Bread Basket and Preserves

Bread Basket and Preserves

I had the pleasure of brunching once again at the gorgeous The Ryland Inn in Whitehouse Station. The menu is concise yet the choices make it incredibly difficult to decide on.

Executive Chef Craig Polignano uses farm-to-table, local and sustainable ingredients making menus of fresh food and flavors that change with the seasons. From the bread basket with amazing pastries and berry preserves to the best risotto we’ve had, to lovely pasta and main dishes, we were once again, wowed.

The cocktails are very special, so don’t omit to order a drink. During this visit, I had a Milk Punch that packed…a punch. Our group also enjoyed Champagne by the glass.

The Ryland Inn service is stellar and helpful and very attentive without being overbearing.

Risotto

Risotto

It’s a luxurious experience with no small details left unaccounted for. This is the best brunch I’ve had in New Jersey.

I posted a photo album of the various dishes we enjoyed on my Facebook Page. Go check them out and try not to drool.

Sunday Brunch  11:00am to 2:00pm.

The Ryland Inn – 111 OLD HIGHWAY 28, WHITEHOUSE STATION, NJ.
