Last week, while on the upper west side in Manhattan, I discovered Beard Papa’s, a tiny space that focuses solely on serving up the very best cream puffs I’ve had in recent memory.
The puffs are filled with pastry cream to order so there’s never a soggy one being served. There are several versions, including the éclair, which I scarfed down within seconds. The puff is crisp, the custardy pastry cream filling decadent and the dark chocolate used to top the treat is rich and thickly-applied.
There are many locations of this brilliant franchise, mostly in the United States and Canada. Be sure to stop by for one, or a dozen to go.
