Day of the Dead, Día de Muertos, is a Mexican holiday celebrated in that country and in many cultures globally. The holiday is an opportunity for family and friends to gather, pray and remember those close to them who have passed away. October 31, November 1 and November 2 are the specific days associated with this holiday.
The calavera, skull in English, is the symbol often associated to Día de Muertos. The calavera is showcased in masks and foods (chocolate or sugar skulls) and frequently features the name of the person receiving the offering on the skull’s forehead.
For those of you who want to mark this holiday with typical Mexican fare, here are 5 dishes to celebrate Día de Muertos with:
- Super Simple Homemade Corn Tortillas
- Zesty Guacamole
- 30-Minute Chicken Tortilla Soup
- Grilled Mexican Corn on the Cob
- Pulled Pork-Stuffed Poblano Peppers
Cheers,
